I’m a writer and director working across comedy, horror, and psychological thriller.I wrote the romantic comedy Worth the Wait, starring Lana Condor, which is streaming on Tubi and was featured in Variety. I also wrote and directed the award-winning web series The Romantic Method (Burbank Film Festival) and the comedy short Ghost Story: A Modern Fairy Tale, acquired by the Created By Women YouTube channel. My feature Impressions marked my first independent writing and directing credit. My half-hour pilot Experts was a finalist at the Austin Film Festival and the Moonshot Initiative Pilot Competition. I’m currently adapting a New York Times bestselling memoir and co-writing an original queer rom-com, Dumpling Wars.As a director, I’ve helmed the documentaries 147 and A Good Neighbor, with A Good Neighbor receiving special recognition from the Creative Climate Awards. My documentary work centers strong narrative storytelling and highlights women and underrepresented voices.I collaborate with indie producers on narrative and documentary projects and am seeking representation to expand my work across film and television.

I write features, pilots, and short films — and I’m a go-to for punch-up, polish, and shaping chaotic drafts into clean, compelling structure that doesn’t feel formulaic. I’ve worked with dozens of producers, companies, and co-writers, and I thrive in collaboration.I’m known for grounding wacky ideas, hitting tight rewrite deadlines, and bringing the banter.I’ve been in writers' rooms, survived 8-hour notes calls, and done 30-hour rewrite sprints to get scripts production-ready. I've also won "best screenplay" twice at the 48-hour film competition, so you know I can bust out quality content on a tight deadline.I bring the love from my scripts off the page. We get to tell stories, let’s be kind to each other. I promise I won't cry if you cut a scene......ok, at least not in front of you.Email MaggieHartmans @gmail.com to collab!
